You are going to find that when someone attempts to start losing weight

You are going to find that when someone attempts to start losing weight they can look like they are losing their mind at the same time. They can become incredibly agitated at the slightest little thing. If you've ever tried to lose some weight I'm certain you have noticed that you are more irritable when dieting than when you are not dieting. While it is stressful enough to start a new weight loss program you're going to find that folks around you can end up making this process even more stressful. If you'd like to figure out how to decrease the amount of stress you have when trying to lose some weight, you'll be pleased to know we're going to be discussing this very thing in the following paragraphs.

Many people understand that if they want to lose some weight they ought to get some exercise in conjunction with dieting. However, the type of exercise you decide on may have an impact on your stress levels. If you simply decide to go for a walk or a jog every day for an hour you will probably find that this is extremely monotonous and boring and isn't helping you relieve stress. When it comes to enjoying your exercise and also reducing your stress levels you might find that Zumba will be an excellent way to accomplish this. Zumba is something which has been taking the planet by storm and has grown to be very popular. There are classes almost every night of the week in every single area of the country.

Many individuals tell you to set goals along with your weight loss program, but you should realize that if you do not reach your goals every week this can wind up piling on even more stress. It is important to set practical goals, losing 15 pounds a week is not only something which is difficult, it is going to be something which is almost impossible for virtually anybody to attain. An honest and realistic goal for trying to lose some weight would be something between 2 and 4 pounds every week. This is effective weight loss because you'll be able to sustain it. Something else you are going to find is that if you wind up surpassing your weekly goal you are going to wind up feeling a lot better about yourself and be more driven to stick to the weight loss program the following week.

One final thing you're never going to want to do is select a diet that is going to completely eliminate one of the food groups out of your daily eating routine. When you totally eliminate any sort of food out of your weight loss plan you are going to feel like you are sacrificing taste, and you'll be much more apt to cheat on your diet. Remember that if you cheat on your diet each and every week you are not going to end up losing weight, and this is going to have a negative effect on both your motivation and your sanity. You don't need to sacrifice certain types of foods when you diet, just pick a program that will enable you to occasionally eat the foods you love. You obviously can't eat the same things as always and expect to lose weight. Don't forget that effective weight loss includes correct nutrition. Without good nutrition, you will not be able to sustain your weight loss. Trying to lose some weight is stressful enough without having to do it all over again.

Any weight loss program is a process. It takes some time. Effective weight loss requires good nutrition, patience, a way to eat the foods you like, and success along the way. If you are three weeks into the program, and you don't see any results at all, that will stress you out and you'll quit. And who could blame you. Find one that fits you.

There have been some studies on how many calories

There have been some studies on how many calories are used from fidgeting, but just how much do they count in an overall weight management plan? Our resting metabolic rate is the amount of calories we need to just keep all our involuntary body functions going. If we just sat still and didn't move, our body would burn calories to keep our digestive processes going, our cells functioning internally, our heart beating and keep us breathing, etc. Anything we do past that takes energy or calories. So, yes even fidgeting requires the burning of calories, which can count to an overall weight management plan, but still, how much?

Calories Used From Fidgeting Varies

Calories used from fidgeting and how much they count is different based on the type and quantity of fidgeting. There was a study done back in 1986 by Eric Ravussin. He had 177 subjects put into rooms about the size of an average bedroom. They stayed in this room for 24 hours. Subjects were able eat, sleep and use a stationary bike. It was the determined by this study that fidgeting played a big role in the calories lost in this study. The people that lost more calories tended to pace, play cards and were just overall more restless. It was not just a few calorie spread either, but a 2,300 calorie difference between the different people and their activity. There are some other variables, which are always true for anyone burning calories, that being muscle mass, age, gender and metabolism. The large calorie difference made this a very interesting study.

Fidgeting Is Only A Small Part Of An Overall Weight Management Plan

If you understand the basic concept of a resting metabolic rate, then it stands to reason that any activity, even fidgeting, will burn calories. And we know that if we take in less calories than we burn each day, we lose weight. So, fidgeting could be part of an overall weight loss or weight management plan. It's not that easy, however. For fidgeting to have much significance, you would have to do it consistently every day. Researchers have found that there seems to be a genetic disposition to fidgeting. So the tendency to fidget is not in everyone's make up, so to speak. That doesn't mean that you cannot incorporate some fidgeting principles into your daily lifestyle, but you would have to make a conscious effort to do so.

Calories Used From Fidgeting Can Add Up

The approximate amount of calories used for tapping your foot vigorously and continuously for about one minute would be about 3 calories. Maybe over the course of the day, you do this for a total of 15 minutes. That is 45 calories. Or maybe while you are tapping a foot, you are also tapping your pencil on the desk. Between the two, you could be burning an extra 100 calories. Actual amounts will vary depending on current weight, age, current lean muscle mass, metabolism, health status and the particulars of the fidget. In addition to those fidgets, maybe you pace while talking on the phone for 10 minutes, that is another possible 30-40 calories. You can see how the calorie count can add up to a relatively significant amount.

When considering your calories from fidgeting and just how much they count toward your overall weight goals, think about what you can consider as part of your calories used from fidgeting. Some ideas might be pacing while talking on the phone, pacing while brushing your teeth, tapping your feet when sitting at a desk, getting up every hour to just stretch or walk around or doing leg lifts or arm movements during commercials, etc. Burning an extra 230 calories a day could equal 2 pounds a month or 24 pounds in a year just from fidgeting. When you think of it that way, calories from fidgeting do count in an overall weight management plan.

Are you looking for answers about this diet

Are you looking for answers about this diet you've begun to hear more and more about? Tim Ferriss wrote a book about getting 6-pack abs in 4 hours, they say. Ok, maybe not really that - but you get the idea. If you're intrigued by the idea, read on to find out what it's all about.

Before we get much further, if you haven't picked up The 4 Hour Body, you should begin with that. Most of your initial questions will be answered there. You'll have more, but you can ask me those later.

It's not a diet
It's important to mention that 4 Hour Body isn't a diet, it's a lifestyle. I know that sounds cliché, but it's true. Diets don't work; you have to change the way you live. If that way is making you fat, then you need to change it. Coming off the diet once you lose weight will only get the weight back on.

The book itself actually talks about a few different types of diets depending on the results you want, but for the purposes of this article, I'm talking about weight loss.
There are five basic rules to the slow-carb diet in The 4 Hour Body.

Avoid white carbohydrates such as grains, potatoes, breads, and pastas. Insulin reaction is the main reason, but grains have other reasons to avoid them (see: gluten)

Eat the same thing over and over again. You do this anyway, usually. The less you have to think about something, the easier it's going to be to stick to it.

Don't drink calories. Especially if you haven't kicked a soda habit yet, you'll be surprised at how many calories you actually drink. Start loving water instead. This tip alone could help you lose 20 pounds in a year.

Don't eat fruit. You might think I'm crazy for saying that, but you need to think about how much sugar is in fruit, and how easy it is to overeat fruit. If you're trying to lose fat, just stay away for now.

Each week, take a day off and go nuts! You'll find it's really hard, especially at first, to follow the plan without really craving some of your old foods. This day helps keep you sane. It also reminds your body that you aren't starving it!

Especially if you're just beginning this, here are a few tips to help you out:
Eat more than you think is necessary. You probably don't really know how much food is appropriate for you. If you get hungry between meals, you're not eating enough protein and fat. Try to get at least 2 cups of veggies with each meal too.

Drink more water than you want to. This helps keep your body hydrated and your belly full. I've noticed when I drink water, I don't eat as much.

Starting out on this fat-loss journey

One of the most common questions asked regarding the 4 Hour Body's slow-carb diet is "Can I eat this?" The actual list mentioned in the book is pretty small, but it's not exhaustive. This list won't be exhaustive either, but it'll get you a good way down the road.

As you're starting out on this fat-loss journey, it'll be important to have a solid understanding of the food groups allowed so you can combine things from each in order to make some really great slow-carb recipes.

There are three main food groups on the slow-carb diet. To construct a faithful slow-carb meal, pick at least one item from each category.

Protein

Protein is the most important food group on the 4 hour body diet. If you don't eat enough protein, you won't be full enough, and you'll crave things you shouldn't have. For an average guy like me, shoot for 30-50 grams or so of protein per meal. That's between 3-6 ounces of chicken breast or steak. Enjoy the following sources of protein:

Chicken
Beef
Fish (pick wild-caught for better quality)
Pork
Eggs

Vegetables

Veggies will be the second most important building block in a solid slow-carb meal. If your meal consists only of protein and veggies, you will be well on your way to rapid - and sustainable - fat loss. Try to get around 2 cups of vegetables per meal. Pick a variety of veggies for best results. The more colorful, the better.

cruciferous veggies (like broccoli, cauliflower)
asparagus
greens (spinach, kale)
cabbages (kimchi and sauerkraut make awesome cabbage dishes and their fermented state helps gut bacteria grow)
peas
green beans
squash (some people don't agree with this, but in moderation it's all good)
tomatoes
peppers
onions

Legumes

Legumes will make up the third block of ingredients. These are otherwise known as lentils and beans. In my opinion and experience, if you're trying to lose considerable weight or if you're generally sedentary, legumes should be limited. They do help fill you up, but if you're eating enough protein and veggies, it won't be a big deal to skip them.

There is also one more that Tim Ferriss doesn't talk about much, but I think its important to mention it.

Fats

Good fats are essential to helping you lose fat. It doesn't sound logical, but fat isn't what makes you fat. Fat is actually what your body likes to burn (why else would it convert excess calories to fat...). It's the only macro-nutrient that doesn't cause an insulin response, and low insulin levels is what keeps the fat melting off of your midsection.

Get delicious fats from things like avocados, olive oil, coconut milk (unsweetened, full-fat), and coconut oil. Seeds and nuts are also nice and fatty, but don't go overboard. Abusing them will stall weight loss, and they contain more omega-6 fats that you generally want to limit (since it's so high in today's diet anyway). If you're eating organic, grass-fed meats, don't bother cutting off the fat either. It'll have good omega-3 fats that do your body good.

When working with my boot camp clients

When working with my boot camp clients one-on-one to help them lose weight, I have a golden rule that helps them get even greater results: Thou Shalt Keep Track of Your Diet.

While I get a lot of moans and groans in the beginning, you can bet your muffin top there isn't one of my bootcampers who wasn't amazed by the results they got when they kept a food diary. What do I know that they don't? Writing down EVERYTHING that you eat and drink has been scientifically proven to DOUBLE YOUR WEIGHT LOSS!

In one weight loss study of 1,700 people, two-thirds of the subjects lost 9 pounds or more over the course of 6 months. But those who tracked everything they ate, lost TWICE as much weight as those who didn't track every day.

Think you're eating "healthy"?

Many of my boot camp clients think that a food journal won't work for them. They "don't eat that bad" or "eat pretty healthy". But the truth of the matter is there is ALWAYS room for improvement. Keeping a food diary helps create awareness of what you're actually eating. Not what you "think" you're eating, but what you're REALLY eating. The calories from the orange juice you had with breakfast, the dressing you put on your salad and the "few bites" of your partner's dessert can add up to an extra 300 calories per day. Multiply that over 365 days and you could gain four and a half pounds in one year!

Hidden Calories Revealed

Do you know how many calories are in your favorite cocktail? What about your go-to energy bar or your famous lasagna? When coupled with counting calories and nutrients, food diaries become an important educational tool. That's why I'm an advocate of weight loss programs like Weight Watchers. They educate you about the quality and quantity of food you're eating. But you don't need weekly meetings to start empowering yourself today. Keeping a food diary can help you make healthier food substitutes and navigate through the grocery aisles as an informed consumer.

Mindless Eating

Did you REALLY just sneak back to the conference room to eat the last cookie from your earlier meeting?!?! Maybe not, but I'm slightly embarrassed to admit that I have! With the abundance of available food in America, we don't think twice about heading to the fridge...even if we aren't hungry. Stress, boredom or the need to take a break (RE: the "cookie incidence" above), can lead us to mindless eating. Writing down everything you eat, every day, helps you think twice about the food choices you might subconsciously be making.

If you find that a food diary alone isn't enough to help you reach your goals, seek support from professionals in your neighborhood. Weight Management Coaches and Nutrition Counselors can help you develop a food plan that works with your schedule, tastes and lifestyle. And since you're already keeping a food diary, you'll have a head start! If part of the reason you're keeping a food diary is medically related - to help reduce bloating, diarrhea or stomach discomfort or regulate disease - seek the help of a Registered Dietitian or Physician. They have the tools and knowledge to get you on track and double your weight loss!

If you are serious about dieting

The picture you will probably think of with a statement 'I'm going on a diet' is an image of tasteless, boring meals accompanied by bland salads and piles of uninteresting vegetables. Oh yes and let's not forget, without snacks to munch on as comfort food. Instead you will probably have an image of snacking on a raw carrot stick or even worse, a bit of celery to keep you going until your next meal.

Diets that actually work don't need to be like this. You can establish and stick to a simple eating plan which is suitable for your requirements. In truth, you will recognize that extreme weight management programs only lead to a decrease in muscle tissue, and not the reduction in body fat that you would hope for. So here are some simple tips to lose weight and get into shape.

Tip 1:

4 key ways to boost your metabolism and quickly lose weight

a) Eat breakfast daily

If you consume breakfast every day, you will find that it will kick-start your metabolism for the remainder of your day. Research has shown that individuals, who consume a morning meal, attain and maintain their dietary goals more frequently than individuals who don't consume daily breakfast.

b) Select a diet that will speed up your metabolism

If you plan to go on a diet then select one that will incorporate various sorts of healthy foods in their eating plan. Some diets include a 'cheat day' as part of their program, to quickly speed up the metabolism and shed weight fast. Of course, you can't over-indulge yourself on deep-fried meals yet still attain your weight reduction targets. The secret to success is to consume your cheat foods without excess.

c) Take regular exercise

Physical exercise has become the sole most effective fat burning enhancer around. The more you exercise the greater calories your body will burn up for energy. Performing some type of physical exercise, for example regular workouts to lose weight or simply a brisk walk several times weekly has been proven to be a very safe and natural way to speed up your metabolism quickly.

d) Drink Green Leaf Tea

There is certainly some proof that consuming green tea will help you increase your metabolism. Certain chemical compounds such as a natural level of caffeine and catechin which is an anti-oxidant present in green leaf tea, have been proven to boost the level at which your body burns up calories. Green tea could possibly have significant benefits when it comes to weight reduction if it is consumed half an hour prior to an exercise routine.

Tip 2:

Set small weight loss targets

To lose weight effectively will depend on your perseverance. Establishing targets for your diet is great but when you place your targets way too high and can't achieve them, you are going to inevitably fail. It makes sense to have small goals to begin with and as soon as you accomplish them, established new ones.

Tip 3:

Plan and prepare your meals in advance

Many overweight people do not plan meals in advance. Instead they grab supper on their journey home frequently in a junk food location. This can lead to inadequate eating patterns and inevitably an increase in weight. Preparing and shopping for your food in advance is the most effective strategy for a healthy lifestyle and weight loss and it will probably bring down your shopping budget too.

So remember to persevere, don't set your targets too high and plan your meals in advance. It is also important to select a good diet plan, eat breakfast daily, exercise regularly and drink plenty of green tea to boost your metabolism for quick and easy weight loss. Talking to your doctor about any issues concerning your weight can help to reduce any worries you may have about starting a diet program.
